Chinese New Year

This week we have been looking at Chinese New Year making and creating in activities to do with this topic. First we made a Chinese restaurant for children to play in the role play area. They really enjoyed this activity using skills such as answering the phone, taking food orders, cooking and trying to pick up pretend food with chop sticks.

We have also made Chinese New Year cards using gold pen to copy Chinese good luck letters on the front, inside the cards children wrote Kung Hey Fat Choy to say happy new year to their friends and families.

Another activity children enjoyed is making dragon puppets using paper and lollipop sticks. Children used skills such as cutting, sticking, folding and colouring.

We had a look at some Chinese symbols and how they were very different to the letters we use in English writing. We matched up the symbols to the letters and used a small paintbrush to write our names in Chinese symbols.
